Mayor Stan Pulliam's Statement on Oregon Department of Education's Woke Agenda in K-4

SANDY, OR—Today, Mayor of Sandy Stan Pulliam issued the following statement regarding Oregon's requirements for curriculum in K-4 classrooms. "We are battling a war on woke, and not against the LGBTQ community," said Mayor Stan. "We must treat all students with compassion and understanding, but these topics are an issue for parents, not government bureaucrats. It’s time to stop talking to 5 year olds about sex, gender identity, and sexual orientation. It’s time to get Governor Kate Brown’s woke agenda out of our schools." Here are some of the requirements pushed by the state without parental involvement:

  • Kindergarten: "Recognize that there are many ways to express gender."

  • 3rd Grade: "Define sexual orientation."

  • 3rd Grade: "Recognize people at home, school or in the community who can provide medically accurate information and/or support about healthy sexuality, including sexual orientation and gender identity."

"It's time to remove this woke agenda from our schools and get back to solving real problems such as poor attendance, violence in our schools, and lagging academic achievement," continued Pulliam.
